Let the baking begin!

I am getting into the holiday spirit – even though my tree is now covered in snow on the back porch. Yes, it snowed, and the kids are still too sick to even take them out for a token picture. 🙁

Anyway, I made my first batch of fudge. I say first because I make a lot. It is a universal favorite at the Webmaster’s work, and I usually make a lot, then send him with little gift plates of fudge as Christmas gifts to his co-workers. Following the regular fudge is mint fudge (which my youngest sister loves and my sister-in-law hates – she does not like mint and chocolate together; separately is fine). Then I had to decide which cookies I am going to bake this year.

My personal favorites are the gingerbread cookies. I am planning to make Gingerbread Bears this year – they are very labor-intensive, but everyone loves them and they are really cute. I may also make Gingerbread Spritz, along with regular butter spritz (the Webmaster loves butter spritz, and so does Uncle Buddy). I have been flipping through my Christmas issues of Taste of Home (an excellent cooking magazine) and been trying to decide what new cookie to add this year. I’m leaning toward the Pecan Swirls.

I can’t wait until next year. The Munchkin will be just old enough next year to want to help me decorate cookies. I’m looking foward to letting her make a mess out of a few sugar cutouts and giving them to family.

And somewhere in the midst of all this, the Webmaster and I are going to work on photoshopping our family pictures that my mother took Wednesday night so that they can be printed up for us. We need to get rid of the Munchkin’s red eye and crop in just a bit more.

Oh, and finish the Christmas cards. Yeah, that too. In the meantime, I’m going to break out the Christmas music!!
