10 Things I Learned This Week

Just a few random facts that I learned this week about life, history, my kids, and the world around me…

1) Andrea Bocelli is blind. I knew who he was, but I did not know that. And we missed the first 7 minutes of American Idol (came in while Katharine was singing), so we missed any intro that might have mentioned that. Thanks, Wikipedia!

2) Leon Czolgosz, the man who assassinated President McKinley, was considered such a “wannabe” among the anarchists that he was trying to join that they actually considered him a police spy, and issued a warning in their underground newspaper to that effect. (I finally got around to watching that History Channel special that I had DVR’d.)

3) Baby Boy is not that fond of bananas, but he will eat bananas out of a jar much more readily than fresh ones that I mash for him. Go figure. (His favorite fruits are pears and peaches – not real condusive to stopping diarrhea.)

4) The Munchkin knows about 20 letters from the alphabet. She still gets some mixed up, but has really impressed me with how much she does know. We have to work on identifying colors, though.

5) While I have received some Stampin’ Up emails verifying that I am now registered as a demonstrator (!), it may still take another week or so for my starter kit to arrive.

6) Seattle Fudge now makes a grasshopper fudge. Ohhh, it was good.

7) I have a new favorite drink at Starbucks – the Blackberry Green Tea Frappuccino. I bought it yesterday on a whim – I was intending to get a caramel frappuccino, but I really didn’t feel like a coffee. When it was offered to me at the drive-thru (I am so glad that Starbucks has a drive-thru located between my parents’ house and my house), I decided to give it a try. It. Was. YUMMY. I love green tea, and I like blackberries, and it was a really smooth, but not overly sweet, blended creme drink. I will be getting it again. I am glad that the frappuccino cremes are back – it’s easier to share those with the Munchkin.

8) We really need to get some kind of large outdoor jungle gym for the Munchkin. Our backyard is now newly re-fenced (the neighbors behind us tore down the old fence when they built a new house on the property and just finished building a nice new one), and I really want her to be able to burn some energy without driving her to the park. Gas isn’t cheap, you know! So we need something nice (but not too expensive), preferably plastic or at least waterproofed (so I don’t have to worry about it when it rains), and a slide is a must. She loves slides and climbing. Unfortunately, my Dad is too busy to build one for us. I’ve done some research online and shipping charges for a toy that large are hideous. So we’re going to have to find something locally, and get it to fit in either the Webmaster’s car (with the back seat folded down) or buy a minivan first and THEN buy a jungle gym.

9) Minivans are really, really expensive (if you want a good one).

10) No matter how prepared I am when I’m trying to leave the house, we’re always late because of the Munchkin. She wants to go wherever it is that we’re going, but she thinks that shoes/a jacket/a diaper change are unnecessary side issues. At least it’s easier to blame her for our perpeptual lateness than to assume responsibility for it myself. 😉

Everyone have a good weekend… I’m going to go to the dentist and have my teeth cleaned to kick it off! Top that for fun!

Hello! I noticed your blog over at Busy Mom’s site – I think we were both writing a comment on her page at the same time! So I thought I’d check out your own blog too! I’ll certainly be back!

Regarding Item #8 on your list, remember that I do have a truck. Handy Guy and I haul things for everyone else, why not you? Have you checked out the ads on Craigslist? You might just get lucky and find somebody whose kids have outgrown their jungle gym. I’ve got my boy and my truck on standby in case you need them… 🙂
