Morphing into my mother

(With apologies to MIM)

Today is my mother’s birthday. I consider myself very fortunate that my mother is only 20 years older than me. If all continues well, I will have her around for a very long time.

In the meantime, I’m turning into her.

It’s the voice. We sound alike enough over the phone that her mother can’t tell us apart. My own husband thought she was me yesterday.

It’s the syntax. After all these years of reading the same books, watching the same TV, talking to each other nearly every day, our speech patterns are eerily similar.

It’s the thought process. We were playing Scattergories this weekend (at my sister-in-law’s insistence – she loves that game), and my mother and I were constantly canceling each other out. I mean, who else would have thought of “tanning lotion” as a letter T word that you might find at the beach??

Still, I’m pretty lucky. She’s a wonderful mom, a fantastic grandma, and knows when to dispense advice, when to keep quiet, and when to say “I told you so.”

Happy Birthday, Mom!

    Happy Birthday Deanna!!

My mom and I have the craziest thing in common…our handwriting is almost identical. Hence my much taken-advantage-ability to write my own excuse(read-ditching)notes in High School…lol
