Not a baby anymore

Tad's birthday!

Today is my little boy’s first birthday. In honor of his birthday, I am giving him a new blog name! Baby Boy just doesn’t seem to fit anymore, so I spent some time thinking about it and decided that his new blog name will be Little Tad, or just Tad. Because he’s still a little guy, you know – though if you know his real name, you can recognize that “Tad” is a shortened version of his middle name. Convienent, yes?

Anyway, he was born a year ago today, three days earlier than his due date. I had really wanted him to be born on his due date, because that was also my Dad’s birthday. And not just any birthday, his 50th birthday. I thought it would be really cool if they could share the same birthday.

Little Tad had other plans, and decided to usurp another important day in our lives – the Webmaster’s and my wedding anniversary!

I had stayed up late, because I was working on a cross-stitch project that I knew I wouldn’t have much time for once the baby was born, but once I was in bed, I could not fall asleep. And I was contracting. Around 3 am I nudged the Webmaster. “I think I might be going into labor,” I whispered.

“Just go to sleep,” he mumbled.

“Did you hear me? I said I think I’m going into labor!”

“No, you’re not. Just go back to sleep – you’re not going to have this baby today!” he replied, and rolled over and started snoring again.

We were supposed to go out to dinner by ourselves (Friend and Doc were going to baby-sit the Munchkin) one last time before this new member of the family showed up. Instead, I ended up with my legs in stirrups, pushing a baby out who was very anxious to join us, as I pointed at my husband of 5 years to the day and said, “You told me at 3 o’clock this morning that I was not going to have this baby today! Well?”

“Okay, you were right!” he said, exasperated. He’s never lived it down.

So, instead of any kind of traditional gift, I got a healthy baby boy for my 5th wedding anniversary – and I am NOT complaining.

Tad now - one year old!Tad, you were the best gift I could have gotten a year ago today. It was probably the most memorable wedding anniversary I’ll ever have. I’ve loved watching you grow and learn this past year, I’ve loved watching you become an individual who is so different from your sister, and I love you with all my heart, now and forever. And if you could just stop eating bark and trying to chew pebbles at the park, it would make my life a lot easier. Trust me, your birthday cake will be much tastier.

Happy Birthday, little guy – we love you so much!
