She wants what?!?

If you have ever read the book A Pocket for Corduroy, there are a few pictures where Corduroy’s owner/friend, Lisa, is holding a bundle of laundry (they are at a laundromat).

This fascinated the Munchkin, who made a snap judgment about that bundle of laundry a long time ago. “Mommy, dat’s a baby,” she insisted.

It made sense to her, since she had seen both Little Cousin and Tad swaddled up in receiving blankets and carried around like that. Consequently, it has taken me several months to convince her that what Lisa is indeed holding is a bundle of laundry.

I was hanging laundry out on the clothesline not too long ago, when the Munchkin came out to “help.” That means that she sometimes hands me clothes, and she sometimes runs away with them. This time, though, she gathered up a few pieces of damp laundry and bundled them into her arms, just like in the book. “See, Mommy, dis my baby,” she announced.

“Oh, I see, Munchkin,” I replied.

“Yes, dis my baby sister,” she told me.

?!?!!??!!?

“Mommy, I wan’ a baby sister,” she said, quite decisively.

Ohhhh, crap. I merely nodded and ignored her. But every so often, she repeats her request.

Now, we do plan on having another baby at some point, but we were hoping for more space between them than the 19 months that are between the Munchkin and Little Tad. And I have no idea where she got the idea of a baby sister from. In the meantime, though, we might have to get her a baby doll that looks more like a baby than her current dolly. Because Mommy can’t guarantee a baby sister, kiddo – sorry.

Hahaha…too funny, Deanna. We’re going through something similar. Peanut likes to go up to babies at the playground and try to pick them up. Then she’ll look at me and say, “Want baby. Mine!”

    Hold your horses, kiddo.

That’s hilarious! I think since she’s seen Tad, Little Cousin, and Belle as the “little babies” of the family – and she already has a brother – she feels she’s missing out on a sister.

Well, you’d better get on that, hadn’t you? 😉
