Ane Speaks… to God

We have gotten Ane into the practice of saying grace before meals. Of course, this means that we often have to sit and wait while she prays, telling God everything that is currently on her mind, until she finishes up and we can eat.

Last night, she had a fit about dinner, picky eater that she wants to be. (For those in the know, I made Olive Mexican Fiesta. For those not in the know, a casserole containing hamburger beef, black olives, chili seasonings, tomato sauce and tortilla chips. If you want the recipe, leave me a note in the comments. I might post it on the cooking blog if enough people want it.) “No, I can’t like this!” she insisted hysterically. We insisted just as firmly that if she wanted any dessert (Jello with whipped cream), that she was going to have to try and eat.

So, in this mindset, she begins to pray: “Dear Jesus, thank you for Mommy and Daddy and Ane and Tad, thank you for dinner, I don’t like it, and thank you for all our friends and family. Amen.”

The Webmaster and I raised our heads, stared at her and then at each other. “Did she just say what I think she said?” he whispered to me.

“Yes,” I whispered back, as I tried not to laugh.

She ate everything except the black olives, which is fine by me. She got her Jello and whipped cream – more low-calorie than a cookie and cooler, because it was red Jello.

It figures that this girl would tell God exactly what she was thinking about her dinner.

Oh, yeah, and apparently this is National De-Lurking Week! I’m not sure when the “week” actually began, but other blogs are spotlighting it. So, de-lurk, please. Just say hi in the comments. It won’t hurt, really! I don’t bite!

    Hi! Deanna!
I love Ane’s feelings and prayer! Who Better to tell how she feels about anything?!
At least she didn’t do a ‘Cassondra’ and sit down, press ‘Grandpa’ on the auto dialer and tell Grandpa that she was in trouble and had Grandpa deal with her Mom!! Phew! That was awful!
And, yes, I would love your recipe! May have to substitute grd turkey for the beef though!
hugs and an extra big one to Ane!

You don’t bite? As sister, I object! You bit as a child and I have never seen proof that your biting days are over.

There is too much about you, not enough about Star Wars on this blog. And you call yourself a fan.

I’d be interested in the recipe too. I’m sure Justin would eat it.

I laughed at this, but then I realized that since my oldest son tells me he “prays to moneky spirits,” when he prays, I really have no right to laugh!

Not de-lurking — just saying hi!
