On the way home

Many of you know that my brother, the Captain, has been serving in Iraq for nearly a year now.

His tour of duty is nearly over – he will be leaving Iraq sometime this weekend with his team. They will be in Germany for at least 2-3 weeks. Belle’s Mommy, my sister-in-law, is flying to Germany to meet up with him there. They will get to spend Valentine’s Day together. It is the ONLY major occasion that they have never missed spending together in 3 and a half years of marriage – they’ve missed birthdays, their wedding anniversary, Christmas – but they have always managed to be together for Valentine’s Day. Isn’t that great?

And I am even prouder to announce that the Captain has been awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq, training a battalion of Iraqi police. The awards ceremony was just a couple of days ago, and he emailed a picture of it to my parents yesterday.

We’re hoping that he gets leave to come here for Easter, along with Belle and her mommy.

Congratulations, Captain!!

That is awesome! I am waiting patiently for the day that the husband of one of my best friends comes home. It’s his 5th tour. I don’t know how they do it.

Thanks to your brother and all the service men and women for their dedication.
