Eternal questions

Ane: Mommy, can I go to outer space? (Question courtesy of a Curious George episode.)

Me: Yes, when you are grown up. And you have to go to school, and then go to college, and then get the right training.

Ane: When am I grown up?

Me: When you’re as old as Auntie. (She is now 14, but by the time Ane is 14, she will understand what it takes to go to space… or maybe she can just hop the next flight for a couple million dollars.)

Ane: *big sigh* I want to be grown up, Mommy.

Me: Well, it’ll take years, sweetie, but eventually you’ll get there.
