Everyone get your lists ready
We’re off to Uwajimaya this morning! Ane is looking forward to seeing the fish and trying to convince me into buying Pocky. I plan on getting some more udon noodles, a jar of funyu, and some napa cabbage.
Yes, we’re taking Obachan with us. This is our quarterly (or so) trip downtown. She wants to get some senbei (aka “unfortunate” cookies), and we will go by the cemetary to “see” my Ojichan after shopping and before lunch. She is also bribing me with Tai Tung (the BEST Chinese food in Seattle, and it is just a little hole-in-the-wall place in Chinatown) takeout for our dinner tonight. Yum. My siblings are now jealous.
So, send me your grocery list, but if you want a jar of takuwan, you’re paying for the shipping.

Let’s see, I’m stocked on nori, rice, and shoyu. I can get Pocky at my local Wal-Mart. I could use some good takuan – the stuff I got at the local Asian market is pretty bad. I’ve been looking off and on for a nice tea set (with FIVE cups! crazy white people and their bad knock-offs). So keep your eyes open.
It seems, though, that my pregnancy cravings are favorite childhood comfort foods (meatballs and gravy, turkey casserole, beef stew – which is what we are having tonight, roll-your-own, etc.). So I haven’t felt the need to experiment with Japanese cuisine past roll-your-own. I might tackle sukiyaki some day.
