Weekend round-up

Today is rainy and cold. I’m wearing a sweater and the kids are in long sleeves. Isn’t this June? Oh, wait… it’s SEATTLE!!!

I feel like I should apologize to MetroDad, but since he’s at a spa, I’m sure there are plenty of indoor activities for him to do until the weather clears up. 🙂

Anyone out there Wallace and Gromit fans?? Anyone? Bueller?

The Webmaster has introduced the kids to W&G in an attempt to broaden their cultural horizons (actually, he just wanted an excuse to watch it and got the kids hooked on it at the same time). As I was looking at the Wikipedia entry for W&G, I found that Shaun the Sheep has his own TV series in the UK now! A few of these episodes are up on YouTube or Google Video, and they are ADORABLE. There is no dialogue, so a child Tad’s age can watch it for its pure physical comedy, and they are clever enough for adults to get a huge kick out of the sight gags and jokes. At just under 7 minutes each, these are great little shows for the kids. When can we get them here??? Thank heaven for the internet!

Watch one. You’ll love it. Make sure it’s a real episode, not one of the short fan videos (a real episode runs between 6 and 7 minutes). The theme song is catchy, and you may not get it out of your head for days. You’ve been warned!

I’m obviously doing something right with Ane.

She loves Star Wars, as you all know. The Episode III soundtrack CD also came with a DVD entitled “Star Wars: A Musical Journey” which takes music tracks and makes music videos out of them. The kids LOVE this – even though it takes some of the movie clips out of context, the focus is on the music. And who doesn’t love John Williams music?

So, the kids were playing with Duplos and we were listening to a Star Wars soundtrack CD, and “Battle of the Heroes” from Episode III began. Ane was listening intently, and as the music swelled to its dramatic crescendo, she yelled, “You were the Chosen One!!”

I stared at her. She smiled at me. “That’s what Obi-Wan Ko-obi says,” she informed me.

And she was right. In the music video, that is EXACTLY what he says at that point in the track.

I’m so proud of her.

Have a great weekend, everyone! Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there!

At least it’s not rainy and hot like it is here in Texas (with thunder, lightening and power-outages).

We’ll have to check out the “Wallace and Gromit” stuff, Oddball really likes them. “Curse of the Were-Rabbit” is great!
