Drying out

It has been wet around here. Really, really wet. Much wetter than usual for July in Seattle. This is one of the few months of the year we’re SUPPOSED to see the sun! The kids and I returned from hot and muggy Missouri and Seattle was just finishing a heat wave. It rained most of last week, in a “Pineapple Express” weather system that local weathermen were claiming “should be happening in November!”

Good side of rain – no wildfires on this side of the mountains.

Bad side of rain – kids going stir-crazy.

As an early, combined birthday present to the kids, the Webmaster and I decided to buy an outdoor toy for them. It was waiting for them when we returned from Missouri. They were so thrilled with it that they were climbing on it in the early morning dew and their pajamas. We had to convince them to come in and eat breakfast before they really started playing on it.

And then it began to rain, and they haven’t been able to play on it. It’s killing all of us.

Fortunately, it’s drying out, the weather is warming up again, and hopefully we’ll have some more summer and fun times outdoors.

And birthdays? Well, Tad’s too little to be counting presents, and Ane’s birthday is two days after Christmas, so she’s going to be so innundated with stuff that she won’t notice that Mommy and Daddy only gave her a couple small things. This was the perfect year to do this, and I believe that this was a good choice for them. Get outside! Away from the TV! Go burn off some energy! Mommy will have popsicles for later.

I feel you on the weather. It pours, then it gets to 100 degrees here, so outside is a joke for me. I don’t think Little Cousin would mind so much because she loves the outdoors, but not me. She just has to wait for Daddy to come home and turn the sprinkler on for her or fill her wading pool.

Mmm Popsicles. I know what I’m buying for dessert — thanks!
