Party recap

It has been a crazy couple of days around here, which I why I didn’t blog yesterday and why my kitchen is still a disaster. But let me fill you in, with a few pictures.

Tad’s party was Sunday evening. He could not care less, and his sister could not care more. Even at the last minute, Ane was protesting the party: “There’s too many people coming!” We firmly told her that the party was happening, and we had plenty of room for everyone.

We had a great many nibbles and snacks, and all was going well until it was time for presents. Ane just lost it. The Webmaster told her that if she couldn’t be happy, or at least quiet, she needed to go to her room to sulk. She left, but came back when I reminded her that she needed to give Tad her present.

Ane gives Tad a present

She had given him a Curious George book. The Brain immediately claimed it while Tad continued, with half-hearted enthusiasm, to open presents.

What's this?

How many of these do I have to open?

Is this the last one?

He was much more interested in his cake, which I had placed toy cars on – Lightning McQueen, The King, and Mater. As soon as the candles were blown out, he got the cars off the cake.

Oooh, cars!

Those cars did not leave his side. He insisted on keeping them with him, even while he was eating his ice cream cake.

Ice cream + cars = happy 2 year old boy

Those cars even went with him to bed. He has not been separated from them since.

Ane, meanwhile, was busy trying out, with the Brain and Head, all the toys that Tad was ignoring. But after the party had left, the Webmaster and I had a special treat for her.

We have decided that Ane is officially potty trained. She stays dry at night, her accidents are few and far between, and while she complains when we “make” her go potty, she is aware enough of her own bodily functions to actually wake herself up at night and go to the bathroom. So, we told her that when we finished her last package of nighttime Pull-Ups, that was it. She would start wearing panties at night.

(We actually rigged the package so it would finish up the night before the party, saving out a couple of Pull-Ups for emergencies.)

We had promised her that we would buy her a matching Bitty Baby nightgown from American Girl when she was completely potty trained. I ordered it months ago, and had it all washed and ready for her on the night of the party.

Surprise!

To say that she was thrilled was an understatement.

Matching nighties and one huge smile

We had two happy kids going to bed that night.

Yesterday, my mother aided me in taking the kids to the mall for Tad’s pictures – which he was a total PAIN for. Next time, we’re going to bring in his booster seat and buckle him in so he can’t run around. He would NOT sit still. Yes, Lightning McQueen and The King were in the picture. And then, in the evening, the Webmaster and I celebrated our anniversary at Safeco Field, watching the Mariners beat the Twins in the company of Friend and Doc. Auntie baby-sat, and we came home to find the kids sound asleep and the house still intact.

It was a busy couple of days, but they were fun! And Tad is two… terribly, annoyingly, frighteningly two. God help us all.

He maybe two, but at least he doesn’t strip naked as soon as you leave him alone!
