Tad’s journey in pictures

We are at home now, and the person who is happiest about it is Ane. It has been a long couple days for all of us, but I know that she missed us terribly.

I thought I would post some pictures of our brave boy from the last couple of days.

We were at Children’s Hospital in Seattle, which is the pre-eminent hospital for children in the Northwest. The hospital is undergoing a remodel, which made getting around interesting, but we managed to find the Tully’s Coffee on the first floor just fine.

Thursday was a long day, because we spent most of it waiting for a spot for Tad in surgery. Since his procedure was relatively simple and minor, it kept getting bumped as more urgent cases went in first. The Webmaster had brought our portable DVD player from home, and Tad watched a couple of his favorite movies – Cars and Curious George – while we were waiting.

Waiting, waiting, waiting

But we finally were taken to pre-op at about 4:15 pm. He was in pretty good spirits, but his mother was trying not to be an emotional wreck.

Just before going into the OR

We had him back in his room shortly after 6 pm. He was very groggy, but he eventually perked up and started guzzling apple juice and eating graham crackers – he had not had anything to eat in 30 hours at that point, though he was on an IV drip to keep from being dehydrated.

Post-surgery and awake!

Eventually, we got him off the IV drip. Even though it was late, he was perking up and feeling like his normal self. The Webmaster found a “taxi” that Tad could be pushed around in, and he took Tad for a ride around the hospital.

We got the all-clear to take him home on Friday. I dressed him as carefully as I could, and he got a sling for his cast.

We left in style.

It is a children’s hospital, after all.

So, we are home. Thank you, everyone, again and again.
