A query

So, here is a question for all of you out there. (Remember the answer will start with a Q… sorry, I just threw that in there for my mom.)

Am going to need to buy a wedding gift for April wedding. Couple is registered for very nice, very expensive china at Macy’s. Here’s the question:

Would it be completely tacky to buy their china, new in box, off eBay? I would only buy a new in box piece, and I think because they registered for it and it is still in the box, they would be able to take it back to Macy’s if they received too many of the same thing without any problems. I would also only buy a piece that they had registered for.

Discuss. 🙂

Sure, why not? It’s not like you’ll comment in the card: “by the way, I got this off eBay.” All they need to know is that they got a nice gift, they don’t need to know how much it did, or didn’t, cost you.

Also, Macy’s is very complying about returning items IF you have a registry, which they do.

I agree. If it’s “new in box” it shouldn’t matter where you bought it. Most gift registries are not all that accurate anyway! It might not have the little Macy’s return sticker, but if the couple wants 8 and gets 9, there are 8 others besides yours that can go back to the store…

I don’t think so ~ as long as it’s new in a box, I don’t see the difference. She wouldn’t know! =) I’d do the same thing, especially on a limited income.

I’m sure it would be fine but I’d be chicken that I’d get caught by the etiquette police. You are much braver than I!

If it was for me, I surely wouldn’t care!
    Go for it!
