Ane Speaks – about Halloween

Ane has decided who she wants to be for Halloween this year – Princess Leia. We’re talking the Episode IV look – white dress, buns on head (Ane calls them “circles in her hair”) and a blaster. She wants to carry a blaster. And it must have some kind of battery in it so it makes noise.

She’s very specific for a four-year-old.

This is definitely easier for me (and by extension, Grandma – sorry, Mom) than her first choice of Halloween costume – Padme Amidala (Princess Leia’s mother) in the yellow picnic dress from Episode II. Yes, I’m serious. That wasn’t going to happen, so I talked her into Princess Leia.

There was only one problem, though. “Mommy, if I’m Princess Leia, who’s gonna be Luke Skywalker?”

“Maybe your brother can be Luke,” I suggested.

She looked at me in horror. “No, Mommy! He’ll just screw everything up!” she wailed.

Perhaps they should go as Linus and Lucy instead. It certainly seems to fit them better.

Actually, if she is Princess Leia for Halloween, Tad will most likely be a Jawa. The Captain was a Jawa when he was three years old, and Grandma still has the costume. We’ll keep the Star Wars motif running.

My brother was an ewok the year that episode VI came out. He was very disappointed that everyone thought he was a bear.

Oddball wants the family to have Jedi robes; he uses Halloween as the excuse.

Ha ha. Maybe he should be Yoda. However, as a Ewok, noone will think it’s odd if he doesn’t say much.
I went to Revenge Of The Sith as Wedge Antilles. That was fun. However, my sister went as Amidala in that white-robey dress thing, and I had to make it. Out of a FITTED bedsheet. Not cool.
