School’s In (for Ane)

It’s back to school today for Ane!

It seems that everyone who sort of “knows” her but is guessing at her age thinks that she is going into kindergarten. No, she’s not. She’s putting in another year of preschool. She just talks like a six-year-old with a Princess obsession.

She’s really looking forward to going back to school. I know, it’s a shock, isn’t it? I told her that today I would be with her – her school has the kids come for only an hour on the first day, and bring a parent along. Tad will spend some time with Grandma and Gichan showing off his mad walking skillz while I accompany Ane – who has made it quite clear that the only reason I am welcome at school is because the TEACHER invited me.

I love you too, kid.

Ane also got to start another type of class this week – on Monday, she had her first ballet class.

Now, this is not “serious” ballet. She’s taking a Creative Ballet class for 3 and 4 year olds at a local recreation center (Lynnwood, for those of you in the know). The class is actually taught by someone from a local ballet company (the Olympic Ballet, who put on the kids Nutcracker performance that Ane and I went to last December), but this is really more of a “let the little girls dress up in leotards and slippers and run around to classical music for an hour” type of class.

Ane LOVED it. Again, are we surprised?

It’s kind of nice to let her do something “extra” for a change. After so much speech therapy and with Tad starting school as well, it makes me feel good to let her do something she enjoys so much for the sheer fun of it.

Ballet class will last for five more weeks, then we can enroll her in the next session if we want. However, Ane may want swimming lessons next. I can only handle (and afford) one extracurricular activity at a time, so she will get to choose what she wants to try next, but she can only pick one thing.

I think ballet may win out for a while.

But in the meantime, back to preschool! Hurray!!
