Dancing Girl

Ane has finished up her first session of ballet at the Lynnwood Rec Center and loved every second of it. We have a week’s break before the next one starts, and parents were invited to the last class of this session to see what the girls have learned.

Aside from not really learning to follow directions well (these are 3 and 4 year old girls running around in leotards, after all), they are all very enthusiastic about dancing. And Ane is fairly coordinated, so she is able to do what her teacher asks – when she’s listening.

Stretching is very important – first of all, it gets the girls calmed down and sitting. Second, it gets some wiggles out.

Since these are very young girls, the teacher is showing them basic moves, not working on “positions” or actual names for anything. It’s all about feeling like a ballerina, not really moving like one. The teacher is part of a local ballet company, and as you move up in classes, they do become more ballet-like. But here, this is just a bunch of little girls having fun.

This last one is Ane’s “star” form. The teacher was having them do a couple of steps on a rug, then come off and finish with a “star.” Ane being Ane, after she did her star and got her polite applause from the parents, she took a bow.

Ballerina in training, people. If she ever learns to listen and follow directions, she could be pretty good. But she’s having fun, and that’s the best part. And special thanks to Grandma for keeping Tad at her house so I didn’t have to drag him to Ane’s class. Let’s just say that the siblings who came weren’t real thrilled with being there.

She’ll make a great star. Hope she doesn’t forget the little people – like her brother.
