More Star Wars Moments

We have seriously overdone the ENTIRE Star Wars series in our house. At least from my point of view. But, then again, I’ve been watching these movies my whole life, which is a lot longer than the kids have been watching them.

To prove my point, here is one Star Wars anecdote from each child.

Ane:
While watching the Battle of Yavin (on the original theatrical version DVD), Ane watched intently as Porkins blows up while over the Death Star.

“Is he dead?” she asked.

“Yes, he is. His ship blew up,” I said.

“You mean his X-wing,” she corrected me.

I stand corrected. My job here is done.

Tad:
Thanks to the Captain, Tad owns a red lightsaber. He has realized that it is the perfect prop for pretending to be Darth Vader. He is close to being able to recite all of Vader’s lines from the climactic scene in The Empire Strikes Back, where Vader reveals that Luke is his son. He doesn’t quite pronounce all the words, but he has the inflections and hand gestures down perfectly. For a boy with significant speech issues, it’s very impressive.

Of course, I have to do all of Luke’s lines. Seeing Tad say “If you only knew the power of the dark side” while clenching his fist at the word “power” is enough to make anyone double over laughing. I really want to tape him saying it, but he’s always whispering these lines – I think he’s trying to drop his voice to a bass tone when he speaks in a tenor.

The kicker is when we get to the money quote. “He told me YOU killed him!” I’ll say.

“No,” Tad whispers in his deep voice. “I did it.”

The first time he said that, the Webmaster was also there and we both cracked up. Now he always says it, because he knows that he’ll get a laugh out of us.

Just wait until Uncle Oddball sees the kids again. We’ve raised some perfect nerd companions for him to play with.

Oddball loved that story and looks forward to seeing it in person.
