Ane Speaks – brutal truth moment

Yesterday evening, we had dinner at Friend and Doc’s house for the last time before baby #3 arrives. This boy was due on Friday, but apparently doesn’t feel like coming out. He won’t have a choice on Tuesday (Friend has an induction scheduled), but right now, everyone’s a little impatient – with good reason.

Tad also got his first look at all the great new toys that the Brain and Head got for Christmas – most notably, several Star Wars LEGO sets. It was like setting a buffet of all of his favorite cookies in front of him, and then telling him not to eat them. Eventually, he got to play with a couple of toys, so long as he was being supervised.

At the end of the evening, he was playing with two LEGO clonetroopers, which Head unceremoniously ripped away from him when we said it was time to go. To say that Tad was upset would be an understatement. He was crushed. He was mad. He flipped his, uh, lid.

We finally got him calmed down and out the door, and as I buckled him into his carseat, he kept saying, “Sorry, Mama. Sorry, Mama. Kiss.” He’d give me a kiss. “Hug.” He’d pull my head into his arms (as I kept trying to buckle him in).

He kept saying “sorry” as we were driving away, until I finally said, “Tad, it’s okay! No one is mad at you.”

“I am,” Ane piped up in a serious voice.

The Webmaster and I exchanged surprised looks. “Ane, that’s a terrible thing to say!” the Webmaster said in an equally serious voice.

“Ha, ha! Just kidding!” she snickered.

Was she kidding? You make the call. And no, we couldn’t keep straight faces after that.

If she wasn’t “just kidding” that was a great save.

I observed that the two younger brothers (Tad and Head) like to play with the small figures, while the two older siblings (Ane and Brain) like to play with the vehicles/structures/big things. As an older brother I was never really into the figures, I always liked the big buildings…

I think the third child will be the one that runs in and smashes everything.
