Tad Speaks – in a complete sentence

There are days when I look at Tad and wonder, will he ever be “normal”? Will be ever be able to communicate and express his thoughts to others? Will we ever be able to mainstream him at school?

Yesterday, I got a much-needed shot of hope.

Little Mo came over to play with Ane yesterday afternoon, and while I kept telling the girls to play quietly because Tad was trying to nap (in his room right next to Ane’s), I’m sure the added level of hubbub was probably why he woke up crying after 90 minutes. For a school day, that’s a VERY short nap for Tad. And he was still in a sleepy funk, though awake and crying, when I went into his room to get him.

I picked him up and sat in the rocking chair with him for a minute to calm him down. He still does love a good cuddle. “Are you okay, buddy?” I asked him as we rocked.

He sat up and rubbed his eyes. “Yes, I okay,” he replied.

He replied.

In a fairly complete, in context, sentence.

He then got up, followed me to the living room, and curled up on the couch behind me as I watched the news and continued to put together some new rubber stamp sets.

And as I worked, I was smiling. There is hope. There is hope.

Nothing can beat that first sentence. Well, getting called “Mommy” is pretty great too.
