Growing Up

Tad is on a growth spurt right now. Some of his jeans are starting to get a little bit short in the legs (he’s still very lean, so all of his jeans are adjustable-waist ones and cinched in just so they stay on him). Some of his long-sleeved shirts are starting to show a little more wrist. And the boy eats. And eats. And EATS.

I saw how his uncle ate as a teenager, and I fear for my pantry.

I was dressing him not too long ago for school, and I said to him, “Tad, you are growing like a weed!”

Ane overheard me. “Mommy, am I growing too?”

Ane is fairly tall for her age, but is the most proportionate child I’ve ever known. Her pediatrician loves her. “Yes, you are growing too, sweetie.”

She pondered that for a moment, then said, “Tad is growing like a weed, but I’m growing like a flower.”

And Aunt Lynda wins the American Idol prize for guessing all the winners from last night. Good news, though – Von, who I’d picked, made the wild card round. Bad news – Tatiana made the wild card round, too. The funniest part was watching Simon mock her when she was talking. Second funniest was Ryan calling Simon “Darth Vader.”

So, I guess we’ll all get to watch Tatiana cry on national television again tonight. Hurray for us.

No little girl wants to be a weed!

I think they brought her back because she is controversial and I was happy for Von too, and also Anoop. Even Newsweek magazine had a piece about how awful she is. (They are hard-up for something to print.)
I hope to see your growing garden on the 28th as I hear there may be a stamp camp.
