Another weird week ahead

And I still haven’t recuperated from LAST week…

Resiss (my sister), Oddball (my brother-in-law), Little Cousin and Baby Cousin (my adorable nieces) arrived last Wednesday to much excitement. They also brought their new puppy, a miniature schnauzer named Phoebe.

By Thursday, Baby Cousin was in the ER, severely dehydrated. She spent two nights in the hospital, and was finally diagnosed with a bacterial gastroenteritis that had given her awful diarrhea and had food shooting through her. She’s now on antibiotics and well on her way to recovery.

In the meantime, we’ve gotten to play with Little Cousin a lot, and we had her over at our house on Friday night, which we all enjoyed. I brought her home with me after Ane and I met up with Grandma (who had Little Cousin with her) to watch Auntie’s high school softball team, the Falcons, play in a jamboree. As near as I can tell, a “jamboree” is a bunch of practice games played against other teams within their division, and each game was only 3 innings long. That was plenty long enough for Ane and Little Cousin.

Clearly, we still have much to teach Ane about the game of baseball/softball. Ane saw a runner from the opposing team try to steal second base (she was thrown out by the Falcons’ catcher). Visibly indignant, Ane pointed at the player who had tried to steal second and cried, “She CHEATED!!”

Yes, I tried to explain it to her. But how do you think “stealing bases” sounds to a 5 year old literalist?

I digress. This week is parent-teacher conference week for Tad, which means that he doesn’t have school until Thursday. My conference day with his teacher is on Tuesday. And our visiting family is still here.

Oh, and I’m having Juliet and Company over for dinner tonight, along with the Friend and Doc clan. I must be crazy.
