Ane Speaks – smartmouth moment

If Ane thinks it’s summer, then she also thinks she should be allowed to dress like it’s summer.

However, after a heatwave that broke a few records for early June last week (we actually peaked at 91 degrees last week – no laughing, those of you in warmer climates) and Ane ready to wear shorts and tank tops for the rest of her life, the maritime weather pushed in from the coast and the temperatures dropped about 20 degrees overnight.

So when I told Ane to wear jeans on Saturday, she wasn’t very happy about it.

“I want to wear shorts!” she demanded.

“It’s not going to be warm enough for shorts,” I told her – the high on Saturday was about 67 degrees and there was a fairly cool breeze blowing through.

“But I don’t want to wear jeans!”

“Then go naked. But you’re not wearing shorts.”

Ane gave in with bad grace. “Fine, I’ll wear jeans.” Then she said, “Can I wear a sweater, too?”

Little smartmouth. I thought I had a budding kindergartener on my hands, not a teenager.

It’s like when I was a kid: the sun’s out, why can’t I wear shorts?
