First Day of Kindergarten!

Doesn’t she look so grown up?

Ane the big kindergartener

Where did the time go?

Ane is excited!

She came bounding into our room at 7 am this morning, yelling, “MOM! You’ve got to get up! I can’t be late for school!!”

Her bus doesn’t come until 8:42 am.

Trust me, we were up and dressed in plenty of time. Ane breakfasted on Grandma’s pear bread toast, milk and coffee. We had put up her hair in soft rollers last night, so her hair was curly and fluffy this morning. I caught her admiring her reflection after I finished her hair. “I look ready for school,” she declared.

I had to wake slug-a-bed Tad and quickly dress him so we could get out to the bus stop. Ane was by the door and waiting.

Let's go, Mom!

Big Jay and Jean and another little boy were waiting at the bus stop already. Ane was relieved to see that her friends were there and the bus hadn’t left without her.

Waiting for the bus

The tag around her neck is something she’s supposed to wear at least for the first week of school. It has her name, home address and phone number, teacher’s name and classroom number, and bus schedule on it. It also says that she’s getting picked up by me after she’s done at school.

When that bus came, she didn’t look back. Neither did Tad, so I had to physically restrain him before he joined his sister on the bus. Soon, buddy, soon. Your bus is coming for you in another week and a half.

On to school!

And she was off. She and Jean sat up front together, near the bus driver, but on the opposite side of the bus. We could see little hands waving at us as the bus pulled away.

Tad was flabbergasted. “Ane got on da BUS!” he kept saying over and over, as if he really couldn’t believe that it had happened.

I’m having a hard time believing it, too. But since I have to pick her up in just a couple of hours, the separation isn’t running that deep.

But I have a kindergartener now. Who’d’ve thunk it?

She looks so cute! Tell her she’s not allowed to grow when I’m not there! She looks so much like you.

she (and the other kids) were so excited they started to cross before the bus driver said to cross. I hollered at them to wait, and they reluctantly did until the bus driver opened her window and waved her arm. It was exciting!
