After a little deliberation and a viewing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, I have decided that we will be referring to the new baby currently in utero by the name of Rerun.

As in, Rerun van Pelt. It makes total sense. We already have Lucy (the bossy, know-it-all big sister) and Linus (savant-with-blanket brother).

And if we can’t manage to think of a real name for this kid in the next few months, his name might end up being Rerun for real.

For everyone who asked how Ane is taking the news of another baby brother… she’s doing quite well with it. We did prepare her for that possibility, and even on the morning of the ultrasound I was running the idea by her again. “It’s okay if we have a boy, Mom,” she said, “because I love baby Rupert.”

Not her own brother, mind you. She loves Rupert, the Brain and Head’s now nine-and-a-half month old (!) baby brother.

I think Ane has come to realize that babies are pretty much the same. They all sleep, cry, eat, look cute and spit up. The only difference between baby boys and baby girls (besides the Y chromosome) is that you dress them differently. And to her, a baby is a baby. The sister that she really wants is a twin her own age, and we missed the boat on that long ago.

And as far as another little brother goes… well, so long as it comes out a baby and not a four-year-old pest, she’s good with that.
