Ane Speaks – Discipline

Auntie watched the kids for us (with lots of backup help from Grandma) on Saturday evening while the Webmaster and I went out to a very very very belated birthday dinner for me at one of our favorite grown-up places to eat. We didn’t have a reservation, but since it was just the two of us, we managed to get in pretty quickly. But since said restaurant is near to Grandma and Gichan’s house, the kids went there to stay while we were out.

When the Webmaster and I came back, we found reasonably well-behaved and happy kids. Ane was having her nails done by Auntie, Tad was reading books, and Grandma had broken out her favorite Christmas movie while she worked on baby Beth’s Christmas stocking.

Later, after her nails were dry, Ane was helping Grandma wind up a thin skein of yarn into a more compact ball. Grandma was feeding Ane a length of the yarn and showing her how to wind it up. However, Tad saw what was going on – and the slack length of yarn in between Ane and Grandma.

Grandma could see the wheels in Tad’s head turning and warned him off. But Auntie took a different approach. “Tad! Go for it!” she encouraged him.

So Tad split the difference and ran with the yarn. Ane was spitting with fury at her brother – and her aunt. Desperate for some justice, she turned to the ultimate authority in the room. “Gichan!” she shrieked, pointing at Auntie. “Spank her!!”

For the record, he didn’t. But maybe he should have. 🙂
