Things That Make You Happy

There are so many small things that can make a person’s day – and there are things that just make you happy.

For Tad, it is wearing shark underwear. And getting to watch sharks. Sometimes it’s just finding a toy that he was just asking about – like his little beanbag Larry-Boy or his Mega Bloks Lightning McQueen (which has been doubling as the Larry-mobile recently). If he has an owie that needs a band-aid, it’s getting a Cars band-aid and a kiss.

For Ane, it’s having her teacher back at school. Mrs. V. was gone last Friday for a meeting, and Monday for some reason. She was back Tuesday and the world was much brighter to a certain little kindergartener. Another thing that makes Ane’s day is having a satsuma as a school snack. Ever since they became available at the grocery stores, she’s taken one every single day to school. She loves ’em. Wearing her favorite pink gingham flannel nightgown is also a happy thing. She calls it her “Laura” nightie.

The Webmaster is happy that I finally got the ironing board down. It’s been up for a few days, and I’ve been doing a lot of ironing in the hopes that I won’t have to set it up for a couple of weeks. The Webmaster took a look at his closet after I was done… and that made him happy, too. We’re both still getting used to his more “professional” dress code at work after years of “Microsoft casual,” but this has meant a lot more ironing for me. The Webmaster has ironed for himself, too, but now we’ll be able to keep the board down for a while.

What makes me happy? The empty kitchen sink… Peppermint Mocha creamer for my decaf coffee… getting more of my Christmas shopping done… watching Tad go potty standing up… telling Ane that she got some mail in the mailbox… thinking about seeing three of my nieces in the next week and spending Thanksgiving with them… feeling Rerun kick me. Not so much in the bladder, kid.

So, what makes YOU happy? We are coming up to Thanksgiving, after all!

Spending time with my guys, and being able to buy midnight release tickets to New Moon, when I was certain it was sold out. Coming home from work, and putting on my comfy flannel sleep pants after a long day. Really, just waking up every morning, knowing that it’s a new day and anything can happen. =)

Little Cousin introducing herself as Snow White (she’s had an identity crisis since Halloween). Watching her zip up her jacket on her own.

Baby Cousin (who needs a new blog name) calling Winnie the Pooh “Poo-poo Bear” or “Poopy Bear.” Hearing her sing the “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” theme loud and off-key.

A nice, hot breakfast on a cold day. Having a working sewing machine. Oddball coming home early (this hasn’t happened in a few weeks).

Waking up with a furry companion keeping my feet warm. Cool down after my exercise class; love those neck stretches! My Bernina. A call from one of my kids. Seeing my grandchildren happy. And seeing Ol’ John coming up the sidewalk.
    Those things make me happy.

Waking up each morning to God’s Grace and Love.
Holding our squirming Grandson and seeing his beautiful toothy smile!
Sharing Family Love: in person, on the phone or though letters/e-mail to stay connected over the miles.
And, reading ‘Deanna’s Corner’ while savoring my morning coffee!
hugs, love and Happy Thanksgiving to All!
