Ane Speaks – Panic Theory

I went out last night for a little “retail therapy” with Handy Mom. It had been a long, long day and it was the kind of break that I needed. It’s Gymbucks redemption time, so we hit Gymboree with the force of two hormonal tornados. We got some fun stuff and I got some early birthday shopping done for certain children (not mine), plus a baby gift for a shower a week from Sunday at church.

When I got home, the kids were already in pajamas and getting ready for bed. Then Ane came running. She was getting her Emily Bunny (from Build-A-Bear) undressed for bed, when one of the bunny’s ear ribbons came off the elastic loop. The thread holding it on had broken, so bow and loop were now separate.

“MOMMY! Emily’s ear bow broke! What am I gonna DO???” she cried hysterically, tears at the ready.

I took the bow and elastic loop from her. “Honey, I can sew this back together easily. There’s no reason to panic!”

Ane stopped for a moment and thought about it. “But we could!” she countered.

“But we don’t need to,” I replied, going to the hall closet and getting my pincushion, small scissors and pink thread.

“Can you do it now?”

“If you stop bugging me and go brush your teeth, YES.”

I was done before she came back out of the bathroom.

But apparently Ane’s motto is to “never let a chance to panic go to waste.”

And TODAY is the big day… Auntie is 17 years old! Wow. Happy Birthday, little sister!

PS – I will always be taller than you. 🙂
