Mother’s Day

The weather was gorgeous.

The kids frolicked outside on freshly mowed grass.

Rerun was passed from one set of loving arms to another.

And I was so busy that I didn’t take any pictures.  Shame on me!

Anyway, I had a very nice Mother’s Day.  After putting in phone calls to Nana, Q-Bee (whose birthday was yesterday as well!) and Ressis, we had Grandma, Gichan, Auntie, Obachan, Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa over for a potluck Mother’s Day dinner.  The kids and the Webmaster had given me my present earlier in the day – a Starbucks Grande cold cup tumbler.  I had been wanting one for the longest time, and every time I tried to get one, they were sold out.

I actually tried to buy one last Friday – the kids and I were going to Auntie’s softball game (her school at my alma mater) and we stopped at Starbucks for Frappuccino Happy Hour (part of their promotional push for their new drink blends), which meant that all Frappuccinos were half-price.  The kids got Double Chocolaty Chip, I got a Extra Coffee Caramel to see what it was like, and we took a Mocha Light to Grandma.  But I saw the display of cold tumblers and got all excited.  I snatched one up and said to Ane, “I have been wanting one of these!”

The look on Ane’s face was one of sheer horror and disappointment.  All of a sudden, I put two and two together – I knew that the Webmaster and Ane had gotten me a Mother’s Day gift, and Ane’s expression said it all.  I immediately put the cup back and said, “But I don’t think I should get it today.  I’ve got too much to carry.”  And I did, between two drinks and Rerun in his car seat (the kids carried their own drinks).

Ane was relieved, but worried.  “Maybe you should just wait, Mom… maybe until after Mother’s Day?”  The poor girl was trying so hard not to spill the beans on her secret, and I felt so bad for her.

So when she triumphantly handed me my gift before church yesterday, I was able to express my delight with absolute sincerity.  “See, Mom, I told you, you just HAD to wait!”  Ane said happily.

I will be toting around my new cup a lot this week – I’m volunteering in Ane’s class today, have a meeting with Tad’s teachers on Wednesday, am (hopefully) going to Tad’s walk-a-thon at school on Thursday, and Rerun has his two-month checkup on Friday.  Busy times, busy times…

The snugglesaurus will be going with me.

(That’s what it says on the sleeper, if you can’t read it.)

I hope all of you moms out there had a happy Mother’s Day!

I have two words for you: Hawaiian Host!

Or here’s another one: But I didn’t tell him what color it is!

Glad you had a happy Mother’s Day!

Funny, I thought of those same two words! At least Ressis added her own words to the memories.
