Silence Reigns

It was what has become a typical Thursday evening.

Load the kids up, drop Rerun off at Grandma’s to play, and take Ane and Tad to the pool for swim night.

Spend 45 minutes in the pool letting Tad “surf”, playing Mommy Shark, backfloating, carrying Tad around on my back in 3 feet of water, and teach Ane to hum as she goes under the water so she doesn’t continually hold her nose.  She’s getting it.

Wash, rinse, repeat.  Literally.  I took shampoo and soap with me, and the kids got a decent hair washing and scrub down in the showers.  I figured it would save us time in the long run, because they end up having to shower once they get home.

Once we picked up Rerun and got home, it was time to hustle.  Hustle to get them into pajamas.  Hustle to brush teeth.  Hustle to get in bed.  Hustle to read stories.  Rerun didn’t drop off as I nursed him, so he went into the crib and listened attentively as I read all about bull sharks to Tad, and then a short Bible story.

Turn on the music, turn off the lights, and hustle over to Ane’s room to finish the last chapter of Henry and the Paper Route.  She wants the Webmaster (when he gets home – TONIGHT!) to start reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator to her.  Turn on her music, turn off her lights.

A half hour later, I checked in on everyone.

Silence.  Everyone is fast asleep.  The older two have been thoroughly worked out, and Rerun is still getting over the teething hump.

Score one for Mommy, who enjoyed her peace and quiet and Blood Orange soda very much.

Mommy Shark, can’t tell you how happy I am that you are teaching them one of my favorite pastimes.

Yeh, she’ll have them in the Tilton in no time!
You might have got them all quiet, but it was aa workout just reading it all.
I’d have gone for wine instead of soda.
