Family Wedding

The raison d’etre of this whole vacation was that the Webmaster’s first cousin, R., was getting married.  I had been told that it would be an informal wedding (Nana went out of her way to tell me that people were going to be wearing jeans), and that it was going to be outdoors at R.’s house.

The weather was not especially promising that day, but I gamely got myself and the kids dressed up – the word “informal” means nothing to Ane and she was wearing the same dress she’d worn at Easter, Auntie’s flower girl dress, and the boys were wearing their white matching polos – and we drove off to Naselle, Nana and Papa packed into our minivan, through some spots of yucky, torrential rain.

When we arrived, it was still raining heavily and Rerun was asleep.  The Webmaster and Papa got out immediately to see where we needed to park the car, but Nana and the kids and I waited for the rain to ease up.  Once Rerun was awake, the Webmaster retrieved him from the car.  “Everyone wants to see the kids,” he told me.

And by everyone, he meant family who we hadn’t seen in over three years.  It took a while for Ane and Rerun to warm up to everyone, but they eventually did.  Ane was reintroduced to her second cousins, who are college students, and promptly fell in love with J. all over again.

Rerun was meeting everyone for the first time, aside from the Webmaster’s aunts and one of his first cousins, and, being Rerun, he charmed the socks off everyone (even if they weren’t wearing socks to begin with).

I even managed to snag a picture (post-ceremony) of all the second cousins who were there.  We were only missing one!

The ceremony, we had been told, would only be about 15 minutes.  We waited a little past the appointed 2 pm time to allow for a break in the rain, and then the wedding was as brief as advertised.  The bride and groom looked very happy together.

The people attending the wedding were pretty happy, too – the rain was stopping and the keg of Bud Light was already open and flowing.  The Webmaster was very happy to be with his cousins.

It was a fun time (SO MUCH FOOD) and a good chance to reconnect with family, some who live out-of-state.

And Tad… well, Tad behaved himself reasonably well during the ceremony…

… and he would talk to anyone who wanted to talk with him.  But he was pretty happy to just eat his lunch and watch a movie (or two) on the iPad.

It was nice to be able to see everyone because of a happy occasion!  We should do this more often!

So, who wants to throw the next party?  🙂

Whew! That was enough for a little while. But it was fun! I have pictures of the attendees holding their beer during the ceremony! And they have a lovely setting. So glad you came.

Great photos. It was so fun to see all the cousins reconnecting and having such a good time. Your kids were so well behaved. Good to see all of you again.
