The Boys Have A New Room!

The molding got done by the skin of our (the Webmaster’s and my) teeth – we painted it on Friday night at midnight and left it out on the porch to dry.  Friday night was rather muggy, and I really thought it smelled like rain.  But we had no choice.  Thankfully, the molding was all dry in the morning, and so when Nana and Papa showed up with a very large wrapped object in the bed of their truck, the Webmaster and Papa could get the molding nailed into place quickly.  And then I did a little touching up with my fine brush and the white semi-gloss paint.

Then that large object came off the bed of the truck, came into the house and got assembled.

Tad has a brand-new maple captain’s bed!  It truly is a beautiful piece of furniture, and will last a lifetime if we care for it properly.  It does visually eat up much of the room, and we’re all getting used to having it in there.

We got the bed made up immediately.

The quilt on the bed is one Tad got from our family friend, June, when he was born.  It’s not quite a twin size, but it looks good for now.  And he’s always loved this quilt for it’s ocean motif.

So we brought Tad in to see his new bed.

His first words were, “This… is… AWESOME!”

To say that he was excited is an understatement.  He was ecstatic.  He was so thrilled to finally have the new room and new bed that we had been promising him for over a month.

The Webmaster got busy building the new bookcases that we picked up at Ikea, and once they were up and secured to the wall, I started putting books in.  Which Rerun started immediately taking out.

Rerun’s crib moved in right next to the bookcases.

And by bedtime, Tad’s bed was all ready for him.  His headboard bookcase was laden with his favorite books and plush sharks, the boombox was in place for music, and his giant shark had taken his spot at the foot of the bed.

Here’s another perspective on the room – this shot was taken from inside the closet:

We’re not done moving things in yet – we have yet to locate the changing table in the room, for example, and the contents of their room have yet to follow them.  Nothing’s been hung up and none of the planned decor has gone up, either.  It’s a work in progress that will have to move somewhat quickly, since the plan is to start in on Ane’s new floor this Friday.

Still, they spent their first night in their new room on Saturday.

And with the boys sleeping in their new room, we are officially halfway done with the Great Room Swap!  It’s taken us a month to get to this point, and I am SO HAPPY to finally have something to show for all the time, money, and effort that has gone into this home improvement project.

With our third, we gave up on having a changing table. I’d personally suggest (though I’m sure Tad would have a personal feeling about it!) using one drawer for diaper supplies (maybe upper left) and putting a change pad on the bed during the day and change Rerun on the bed). Or, put a change pad & diaper supplies under the crib and do changes on the floor. We have 3 kids in 2 rooms too and the change table just went by the wayside with all that furniture!

    It looks great!
