Ane Speaks – Book Review

We just finished reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night.  Ane loved the book, was so into the plot, and is ready to jump into the next book.  I am insisting that she read a library book first before that.

As I was turning off her light and tucking her into bed, she asked me, “Mom, how did you hear about the Harry Potter books?”

(This made me feel very, very old.  Here is yet another thing that I remember so clearly that, to her, has always existed.  I was pregnant with Ane when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was published.)

I smiled.  “They started coming out when I was a grown-up, Ane.  Whenever the next book came out in the series, it was a big deal.  Bookstores held huge parties, they were so popular.  But after you read one book, you had to wait a whole year for the next one to come out!”

She regarded me seriously.  “That must have sucked.”

“You have no idea,”  I replied.

    Nancy drew what?? 😉

I remember when Sorcerer’s Stone came out… I was just about to wrap up my first year contracting @Microsoft. I wondered what the big friggin’ deal was… then 11 years later, Deanna read them to me during the day while I was looking for work. Loved it!

And to think I didn’t get into the books until well after the first movie was out and was shown on television… I feel like I missed a whole portion of the cult following.
