O Christmas Tree

The tree is up, and a major disaster has been averted.

The tree went up on Friday night to dry off, got lights on it Saturday afternoon, and then got decorated on Saturday evening.

Sunday morning before church, Tad turned the tree on and the top half of the tree was no longer lit.  He then demanded that I fix it.  NOW.

The strand that was no longer lighting up is brand-new this year, so I had no idea what had happened.  Tad got pretty upset, I promised him that Daddy would help fix it, but the boys and I ended up missing first service.  The Webmaster and Ane went early, so they missed all the drama.  When the Webmaster got home, he managed to replace the fuses on the light strand.  That… did not work.  I began to panic that we were going to have to strip the top half of the tree to fix the lights.  The Webmaster then experimented with an extension cord to see if the top lights would even work.  Why yes, they do! *whew*  So the lights are now plugged into the wall with two different cords.  It’s working, Tad’s happy, and I was relieved out of my mind.

Tad has finally learned this year that ornaments are NOT toys, and they are NOT to be taken off the tree… just in time for Rerun to start treating glass icicles like lollipops.  Fortunately, I have two pairs of tattling eyes watching him, as both Ane and Tad are quite willing to point the finger at their baby brother.

The kids went to Hallmark to pick out ornaments after they saw Santa last week, and here is what they chose (with the price limit that we imposed)…

Ane went full Disney Princess… again…

Tad went with his newest love, and our tree acquired its first superhero…

Rerun is still a little young to pick out his own, and even though there was a Cars ornament and a Dinosaur Train one, I decided to start a series for him that I know he will appreciate later.  We got the first in the series of the new Disney/Pixar ornament line for him.  The debut ornament is from the movie Up

Tad really likes this ornament, too.

The Webmaster and I picked an ornament out for ourselves, which we had no trouble agreeing on…

It talks, too!

Yes, I know.  We are nerds, no need to point that out in the comments.  We have a very happy nerd marriage.

And here is my new Snoopy and “Little Bernie” ornament this year…

And then Tad amazed me by specifically remembering an ornament and asking to hang it up… “Mama, where Mickey and Minnie in their house?”

You can’t see it in this picture, but one of the reason Tad likes this one so much is because it has a see-through fireplace in the back, where you can fasten a light from the strand to make the fireplace glow.  But I was so surprised and pleased that he recalled this one from memory!

Now, if we can just keep Rerun from taking ornaments off the tree…
