The Clown

We had a full weekend, but then I saw the news on Sunday night that Seattle icon J.P. Patches had passed away.

It made me cry.  I am too young to actually remember watching J.P. on TV, but my parents did.  And growing up in Seattle, even if you grew up in the era after the show was over, you still knew who he was.  Everyone did.  He was always making appearances and showing up in parades.  And then some of the shows were released on video tapes (and later on DVD), and we had those, too.

J.P. made yearly appearances for 25 years at Yakima Fruit Market every fall.  Auntie met him there once.  And in 2008, the Webmaster and I made the effort to take Ane and Tad to meet him.  I wrote a blog post about it at the time, and you can read the full story there, but I just want to post this picture again.

Thanks for the memories, J.P.   We will miss you.

My kids watched his morning show, and I enjoyed it too.
