Headaches

So.  Yeah.  I’m fine, Thumper’s fine, the kids are fine.

The car is actually okay, too – it is driveable.

Monday afternoon, we were headed to Grandma’s house to drop off Ane and Rerun, so then I could take Tad to speech therapy, as usual.  But on the way there, we got rear-ended.

The bumper of the minivan took the hit, so while it was a pretty big jolt (I was slowing to a stop and hadn’t stopped completely yet, and the SUV that hit me tried to swerve at the last second to avoid me), the damage is limited.  The back bumper is scraped up, but pretty cosmetically, but the panel is out of alignment (which you can see by how it has separated underneath the rear brake light).  The doors still open, the back door still opens, and the minivan itself drives just fine.

Still, the whole thing is a massive headache.  The boys took the whole thing in stride, but Ane almost went into hysterics.  I was actually afraid that she’d been hurt, but then it was obvious that she was just upset.  I had to tell her to CALM DOWN because she wasn’t helping and I thought she might set Tad off.  I eventually did have Grandma come and pick them up (since we were close by) because that way they weren’t just sitting in the car, waiting.

The State Patrol came and filled out the accident report (and cited the other driver, who was another mom on her way somewhere with her kids), and eventually we all got on our way.  But we ended up missing speech therapy, I have some whiplash, and now we have to get the car checked out and fixed.

I saw my OB yesterday morning, and she gave me a referral to a physical therapist, who will be checking me over today.  Yay, another appointment to keep.  Joy of joys.  Thumper is completely fine, though – he was rocking and rolling around for my doctor and got a clean bill of health.

So, I don’t recommend getting rear-ended.  It’s no fun at all.
