Celebrating Life… and Cousins

The Webmaster’s uncle passed away on July 30th.  It will be 15 years this November since he was stricken with encephalitis and his life as he knew it ended.  His short term memory was gone, and much of his long term memory followed.  I never met him before his illness, so everything I know of him is secondhand from people who did know him.

There was a “celebration of life” service last Sunday, and the Webmaster, Ane, Thumper and I were able to go.  (Tad and Rerun stayed with my parents for the afternoon/evening, since the service was held in the Webmaster’s home town two hours away and the boys wouldn’t have understood the service.)  The definite highlight of the day was seeing cousins who we haven’t seen in a couple of years.  Ane was especially thrilled to see her cousins E and J again, and to meet their older brother D for the first time.  They are all adults now – it’s hard to believe that the first time I met them, E was Ane’s age.

And of course, Thumper charmed everyone.

Ane spent some time reconnecting with her older cousins, and talking with their mom (the Webmaster’s first cousin L).

Even though the occasion was a sad one, it was wonderful to reconnect with family that lives so far away.  And Thumper, being the cuddly and social baby that he is, was quite comfortable with his second cousins.

Very comfortable!

Here’s hoping that a happier occasion will bring us all together again soon!

The family circle grows wider and stronger. Thanks to the “babysitters” who made it easier for you four to attend. Unforgettable.

What a joyous occasion the memorial turned out to be! Thank you for coming and bringing your entertainment package. And the pictures are wonderful.
