Oh Santa!

While Ane was at yet another party on Sunday afternoon (the kid has a more active social life than I do), I sat both Tad and Rerun down.  “We are going to go visit Santa after Ane gets home!  So if you guys smile nicely for the picture, we can go get milkshakes afterwards, okay?”

Tad was on board with that, and promptly got paper out to write a letter to Santa.  I took a picture so I could keep it forever, knowing that he would leave it with Santa (and he did):

His illustrations were PERFECT.

Rerun was less sure about the whole thing.  I showed him the old pictures of the kids and Santa…

… but he really only recognized himself in last year’s picture.  He assumed all the other pictures of him were actually Thumper.  But it seemed to jar enough memories that he agreed to meet with Santa.

We also informed Ane, who is quite aware that Santa is not really in control of her gifts (as she puts it, “He’s a fake!”) that she was not to be a jerk about taking these pictures.  And that if she ruined it for her brothers, she would be in a world of trouble.

On the way to the mall, I reminded Rerun that we were on our way to meet Santa, and that he needed to smile nicely and sit still.  “I don’t WANT to,” he declared.

“Okay, no milkshake for you, then,” I said.

“OHHHHH, FINE,” he said, with all the hefty sighing of a teenager.

The Webmaster nearly suffocated as he tried not to laugh out loud.

The Santa people have got this racket down cold.  They’ve figured out that people want the digital picture, so they now sell it.  There’s now a minimum purchase (never has been before), and it just happens to be… the cost of the jpg that they will email to you.

We bought it, and our usual 5×7’s for the grandparents.  But here it is for everyone to see!

As you can tell, everyone held up their end of the bargain, so there were milkshakes at Dick’s Drive In for everyone!
