In His Own Particular Idiom

Tad is a literal kid.  Not as literal as some kids that we know, but he takes words and sayings at face value.

Tad

His ABA therapist has been working with him on the concept of idioms – that a saying can convey a different meaning, or that a phrase can evoke a wholly abstract idea.  Some of the ones he’s been working on are “pulling my leg,” “raining cats and dogs,” and “down in the dumps.”

On Friday, the Webmaster confiscated Tad’s scarf.  Again.  We keep telling him over and over that his scarf is not a leash, or a harness, or a whip… it doesn’t seem to really sink in.  Tad was quite upset that his scarf had been taken away.  Then the Webmaster caught him trying to walk out the front door.

“Where are you going?” the Webmaster asked.

“I’m going down to the dumps,” Tad replied.

So, we’re only halfway there on the idiom concept.  But he’s getting there!

Webmaster should have offered to drive him there, I would be interested in where Tad beleives “The dumps” are.
