No-Good Broken Bone

So, this happened.

Ane, with her splint

Ane was outside playing soccer in the cul-de-sac, wearing THAT SHIRT, when she tripped and fell.  And she immediately came inside, wincing in pain.  We slapped an ice pack on her arm, but she couldn’t bend her wrist properly.  So I sent her and the Webmaster off to the Children’s urgent care clinic just north of us (in Mill Creek, for those in the know).

She got an x-ray and they found a buckle fracture of the radius, just a few inches below her wrist.  Of course, it’s her RIGHT arm.

Fortunately, she doesn’t need a cast.  They gave her a velcro-secured splint, told her to ice it for the next few days, and follow up with our pediatrician in 1 to 2 weeks.

She came home in fairly decent spirits (they gave her an Otter Pop at the clinic) and I think there’s a certain cachet in getting to show off her splint at school today.

I’m just thankful and grateful that it’s no worse than a small fracture and that she’ll heal quickly.  Not sure if I’m going to let her wear that shirt again anytime soon.

And before I forget – happy birthday, Nana!  We send you our love!
