Living in Cosplay World

Rerun’s gift from Friend and Doc included a sonic screwdriver flashlight, a red bow tie, and red suspenders (which, as we have learned via Doctor Who, are called “braces” in England).  I honestly don’t know if a gift could have delighted him more.  So when we left the house yesterday, this is how he insisted on dressing:

The Doctor is ready

I did have him wear the blue bow tie instead – it matched the shirt better.  But if he is going to keep dressing like this, I’m going to be doing a LOT of ironing.

He got lots of compliments from random people at Trader Joe’s yesterday – especially from the people who work there, who recognize us from our weekly visits and stopping for lollipops.

The Doctor goes shopping

I mean, how many kids insist on wearing a bow tie to the store?

Ane is amused by his cosplay on one hand, and slightly mortified by it on the other hand.  “What happens if he wants to wear a bow tie to school?” she asked us.

“It wouldn’t be the end of the world,” the Webmaster replied.  And it’s true.  Since he’s not fidgeting with the bow tie or the suspenders, they aren’t distractions to him.  Though he would still need to do his work at school, and not play pretend during class.

So, Friend and Doc definitely won a round with this year’s Christmas present.  Though I know he has his heart set on other things.  While we were driving home from ABA therapy yesterday, he was singing (to the tune of “All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth”) “All I want for Christmas is a Nerf Zombie Blaster gun, a Nerf Zombie Blaster gun, a Nerf Zombie Blaster gun….”

Subtle, isn’t he?
