Mother’s Day 2016

My Mother’s Day started with a lot of scuffling and whispering, and all four kids waking up over an hour earlier than normal on a Sunday.  “SURPRISE!  WE MADE YOU BREAKFAST!”

I eventually did eat it – Ane had made cinnamon toast and coffee for me, and ended up feeding her brothers cereal and yogurt for breakfast as well – but I managed to get another half hour of sleep before getting up.

My spread of presents from the kids was quite cute.

The Star Wars and Peanuts crochet kits were gifts that I had picked out, so they were not a surprise (though I can finally open them now!).  Ane gave me the wine cork spreader set, Tad had made the swirly shaving cream art card and a bead necklace, Rerun had decorated the picture frame in one class, and had another picture laminated with a tribute to me (the kids were supposed to list off something their mom does for them.  Rerun wrote “My Mom makes pancakes!”), and Thumper’s preschool class had made Mother’s Day cards and attached a sugar cookie in a baggie, which I think they let the kids decorate.  I might not be eating that cookie.

But it’s the thought that counts.

I’m so grateful that this is my circus, and these are my monkeys.

We went over to Grandma and Gichan’s house for a BBQ potluck dinner, and were joined by Obachan, Great-Grandma, and Great-Grandpa.  Dinner was fabulous, and we had a chance to FaceTime with both Ressis and Oddball’s family, and the Major and Q-Bee’s family.  (Q-Bee’s birthday is today as well, so happy birthday to my favorite sister-in-law!)

I remembered too late to get pictures with anyone but Grandma, so I’ll have to make sure I get great-grandparent pictures on Memorial Day weekend at some point.

Here’s hoping that all the moms out there had a restful and sweet Mother’s Day!
