Hawaii, Day One – the Webmaster’s Birthday
We arrived in Honolulu late last Tuesday, so Wednesday was really our first day there. And it was the Webmaster’s birthday! We celebrated with a big family brunch at Aulani, the Disney resort.
And because the nieces knew it was the Webmaster’s birthday, they immediately ratted him out when the “auntie” who was putting on the show asked if there was anyone celebrating a birthday that day. That meant the Webmaster had to get up and dance a birthday hula.
Both Goofy and Minnie visited the table.
The kids loved the food…
… and once we were done eating, we stopped off at the gift shop for a few souvenirs, and at the bathrooms to change into swimsuits. The Major had to go back to work, but Q-Bee was about to take us to our first beach at Ko’Olina Lagoon.
Welcome to paradise.
The kids had a great time in the water…
… and even the Webmaster got out there, and floated in the wonderfully warm water. Happy birthday, indeed.
The lagoon was so peaceful and calm, and there were no waves to worry about. However, there was a freak appearance of small jellyfish, and all the kids – except Thumper – were stung. Even the Webmaster was stung, but he didn’t mind. (Rerun didn’t even notice his stings.) Q-Bee said that in their two years of living there, this was the first time that they’d dealt with jellyfish at Ko’Olina. (We learned from friends of the Major and Q-Bee’s that warning signs about jellyfish were up a couple of days later.)
After our beach time, we stopped off for ice cream and Island Vintage Coffee. Q-Bee introduced me to the Vintage Kona Mocha, Grandma and Gichan’s favorite iced blended coffee drink, and I was hooked. Starbucks, you have much to learn to beat THAT.
Our first day was simply amazing. I told the Webmaster that I don’t think I’ll be able to beat this particular birthday for a LONG time.

Yes, that day must be at the top of his favorite birthdays list!
