The Unplugged Hoedown

Little Cowgirl’s birthday was on Friday, but we held the party on Saturday.  It was a Western-themed birthday party, complete with kerchiefs and hats and a hysterical fake mustache that was first worn by Auntie’s boyfriend JW, and then was claimed by Tad.

And the front porch had a photo booth – complete with “Wanted” poster!

This is what happens when Auntie gets on Pinterest.

And all was going according to plan… until 15 minutes after the party started and the power went out.

Good thing the food was ready!

As we learned from the Twitter feed of the power company, a tree had fallen on lines and taken out FOUR substations all at once.  Over 18,000 people were without power.  (The Webmaster checked with neighbors and learned that we still had power at our house.  Grandma and Gichan weren’t so lucky.)

Fortunately, the weather was good enough for us to gather outdoors to eat – and open presents!

It was definitely a party to remember.

And even though their power didn’t come back until 11:15 that night, Little Cowgirl had a pretty awesome shindig for her 9th birthday.

No power? Just like the old west! Yee-haw, what fun! And a pretty Cowgirl.
