More Crochet Projects

How is it June 1st?  Really???

Anyway, I just finished another blanket recently.  I’ve been trying different yarns, and I’ve found a few that I really love.  I tend to gravitate toward either the baby yarns or the soft yarns – I’m all about the soft and plushy textures.  I know it’s good when the boys go all sensory on me and play with the yarn.

This blanket was for family friend J’s first baby.  Her theme was giraffes, and this yarn (Bernat Softee Baby Chunky) was really great to work with.  It was the first time I had made a ripple afghan blanket.

Then I made another baby blanket for another first baby – this time for friends at church.  The nursery colors were navy and cream.  I used Red Heart Soft for this blanket (and went back to the shell stitch, but striped it).

Then one of the Webmaster’s coworkers announced she was having a baby.  I hemmed and hawed about the colors (they were going with an outdoorsy “woodland” theme and were having a little girl, but didn’t want girly colors), and actually started another ripple afghan in Bernat Softee Chunky before deciding…. I didn’t like the yarn texture.  The baby yarn was MUCH nicer.  So I abandoned the blanket and went back to one of my favorite standbys – Bernat Blanket.  Nothing is softer than the chenille yarn.  And I tried a new pattern, which was called a “pebble” stitch.

I liked the pebble stitch so much that I made it again on a bigger scale – this time, as a birthday present for Ane’s math tutor.  She has also been a good friend, and has always loved the feel of the chenille yarn since the first time she saw me working with it.

I made it a good size for a single, or a lap blanket for two.  She promptly informed me that she had no intention of sharing the blanket with her husband.

Then I made a blanket for a friend who was having baby #3.  I always feel like each baby should have something specially made for them, not just the first one.  She told me the colors, and I went back to the Bernat Softee Baby Chunky yarn for another ripple afghan.

Which brings me up to now.  I am making another blanket with the Bernat Softee Baby Chunky yarn, but trying a different pattern.  I’m actually trying a couple of different things with it, and if I’m successful, I hope to be able to actually write the pattern out.  Everyone will just have to wait and see!

Beautiful creations you have made! Each will be Treasured by the recipient, especially the babies, when snuggled in this softness of your heart! Hugs!

I still love the gorgeous blanket you made for Baby Cousin! Right now, no one is allowed to touch it but me; I want it pristine for her when she’s older.

These are wonderful blankets, Deanna, each a work of art. They will be enjoyed for decades to come….
