Big Sister And Little Brother Go To The Zoo

Last Thursday, Thumper had a day off of therapy that I hadn’t really planned for.  Since we had to drive into Seattle anyway to take Tad and Rerun to camp, I thought we might spend a few hours at the zoo.  I suggested to Ane that she could come along.

“Why would I want to go to the zoo?” she asked.  Fair point – she’s old enough that the zoo doesn’t quite have the same charm as it once did.

“Well, you could go in your workout gear and get a run in,” I suggested.  After all, Woodland Park is relatively level, with extensive paved asphalt loops.

Ane was intrigued by the idea, and agreed to go along.

The day began mild, and warmed up slowly.  We actually started our day walking through the tropical rain forest, just to warm up a little, and were rewarded with getting to watch the ocelot eat and prowl.

When Thumper gets to choose the exhibits, he prefers the ones that have water in them.  Like the penguins…

… and the river otters.

Thumper actually spent a lot of time just wanting to watch the otters frolic around their little waterfall.  Yes, he is definitely attracted to water.

Ane got her run in, and we also got to see Lulu, the one-month-old baby giraffe!

We spent nearly 4 hours at the zoo, and it was the first time that Thumper went without the stroller.

And he immediately fell asleep on the way to pick up his brothers from camp.  Success!
