Rerun Speaks – Favorite Holidays

So, I have homework.  Because Rerun is part of the ADHD program at camp, I get to participate in a weekly parent training session with all the other ADHD parents.  We really do have some productive conversations with the therapists running the show, and… we get homework.

One of the things we are currently doing with Rerun is called “special time” – 15 minutes of one-on-one time with him, no interruptions, and completely directed by whatever he wants to do, with no corrections from us.  There are a few rules – for example, special time can’t include any iPads, computers, TV, or movies – but it has definitely been interesting.

Rerun and I ended up having a very in-depth conversation about the calendar during a special time chat – which was all about Rerun listing off his favorite months of the year.  He told me he loved October, but didn’t like November.

I asked why.

“Because October has Halloween, and I get to go trick-or-treating, and there’s candy!”

“But November has Thanksgiving!  Isn’t that fun?” I asked.

Rerun shook his head.  “I don’t like turkey.”

So, there you go.  Candy > turkey, October > November.

You need to remind that little “turkey” that Grandma’s rolls don’t appear on Halloween, but at Thanksgiving!
