A Little Shark Time

Over the weekend, the Webmaster and I decided to take the boys to the zoo and aquarium.  Ane was out with a friend, so it was just the boys.  The older two had been asking for the aquarium – Tad, especially.  He wanted some shark therapy time.

So, we went!  The first new thing we saw was the statue of the late walrus, ET, that now stands at the front entrance.

We decided that it would be a smart idea, with the weather threatening rain, to do some of the outdoor exhibits first, and save the aquarium for when the weather got worse.

This was a good call, because the walruses were in very playful moods.

We also had the fun of catching the sea otters being fed!

But Tad really wanted to see the sharks – and Rerun wasn’t happy to stay in one place for too long – so off we went.

First we stopped at the touch tank, then Tad found the beautifully colored zebra shark.

And then Tad got to his happy place.

He found his favorite shark in the tank, the Japanese wobbegong.  He decided it needed a name, so he now calls it “Wobby.”

The Webmaster moved on with the anxious-footed Rerun and the compliant Thumper, and I stayed with Tad in the shark aquarium for a while.  He sat for a very long time and “talked” with the wobbegong, then just strode around watching the other sharks, occasionally talking to other kids his age about the different sharks.

We did move on eventually to check on the tigers and elephants, but this was definitely the day’s highlight.  This, and the ride on the carousel at the end of the day.

The day was worth the effort the Webmaster and I put into it!
