Memorial Day 2020

No ceremonies, no concerts, no baseball games, and no sunshine.

Just lots of rain and social distancing.

Last year, Ane and I went to our local cemetery’s Memorial Day service and I found it to be so much more satisfying than the one at the big cemetery (though I am drawn to the big one for family and historical reasons).

I had planned on having the Webmaster go this year with Ane, and maybe Tad.  But with the lockdown on, there was no Memorial Day service.  The cemetery was open, but there would be no flag placing except by family members, and no big gathering.

Plus, it was drizzling pretty steadily.

So the Webmaster and I took the flowers that he had picked up while at the farmer’s market the day before, and walked over to the cemetary in the rain.  The Webmaster had never been there, though it’s within 3/4 of a mile from our house and we drive by it almost daily.  It was surprisingly busy, though people were keeping their distance.  We left our flowers at the veterans memorial and paid our respects.

It made the day a little more meaningful, which we both wanted.  And the walk, though wet, was nice.

That was Memorial Day for us.  No barbecues, no playing outside.  Just a walk in the rain.
