Muppets Again

After we saw the Muppet exhibit at the EMP/Science Fiction Museum, I realized that I had made a tactical error.

Once we’d seen all there was to see at the exhibit, we came home and THEN started watching Muppet Show DVDs.

As a result, Tad is now totally hooked on the Muppets, and is especially a fan of Mahna Mahna and the Snowths.

And, of course, Mahna Mahna and the Snowths are just a handful of Muppets on display at the exhibit.

And yesterday was the first Thursday of the month.

So off we went. Again. And this time, the kids were REALLY excited. Tad ran straight to the case where his favorite characters were and yelled, “Mama! Mama! Is Nah-Nah and Do-doo-do-doo-doo!”

Since that’s all the pink Snowths sing, that’s what he calls them. Do-doo-do-doo-doo.

But of course, since the whole thing is a Smithsonian traveling exhibit, we aren’t allowed to take pictures of it. (Though the media was allowed to take some pictures that can be seen here.) The only place in the exhibit where cameras are allowed is for the special Seattle-only section, where people (mostly kids) are allowed to be a Muppet rock group called “Mudgarden Experience.” Ane did play in this last time, but I was too busy chasing Tad to get good pictures. However, she played it twice tonight (despite absolutely crushing crowds).

And each time, unlike last time, she picked the girl piano player Muppet.

She had such a great time (and actually wasn’t too bad at the puppeteering part, either) that she got in line again, and this time Tad wanted in on the action.

The Webmaster went back there to lend Tad a helping hand, which was a good thing, because according to him, Tad was constantly watching the monitor below the platform, where the performers could see what the Muppets were doing (which is how the real Muppeteers actually work).

Ane was the girl again, and Tad was Cookie Monster (several small Sesame Street puppets were on hand for the little kids who couldn’t handle a large Muppet).

It. Was. CROWDED. Apparently, everyone else in the city discovered what we did a month ago – you could see this for FREE! And there were a lot of adults there tonight who came to see the Muppets – alone, without kids. And that was perfectly okay.

So, Ane and Tad enjoyed another visit with the Muppets. And the Webmaster and I enjoyed the fact that it was free.

I hope everyone finds free and fun things to do this weekend! Happy 4th of July!
